By Tiffany Williams –

Kids in Worcester, in just a few weeks will be heading back to the classroom, and for parents it’s that time of year to do some back-to-school shopping.

But for many parents, back-to-school shopping is an extra burden on an already strained budget.

To help ease that burden, Worcester District Court Officer, Woodrow Adams Jr. has for the past few years had a Back 2 School Backpack Giveaway.

Officer Adams event started in 2017 “In an effort to provide children from all over Worcester and surrounding areas with the necessities to be ready to go back to school,” is what it says on his website, 508 Forever Young Inc.

Officer Adams Back 2 School Backpack Giveaway is a helping hand for the new school year and brings a city together in hopes to fill over 3000 backpacks with new school supplies.

The event which is August 28, 12PM-5PM at Fuller Family Park will have free food, free haircuts, face painting, a career booth and so much more.

With the economic impact on families because of COVID, this year, the need for Officer Adams event is greater than ever before.

Because of “pandemic poverty,” more people are struggling to make ends meet. So events like the Back 2 School Backpack Giveaway is just a way for the community to step up so, in the fall, kids will be able to hold their heads high when they head back to school.

Donations of backpacks and school supplies are still being accepted at Fade Kings Barber Shop, Addie Lee’s Soul Food, YMCA and Unified Insurance.
