The Worcester Red Sox went a scoreless eight innings on Sunday to finally score in the bottom of the nineth. That score would be Jack Lopez hitting his third homer of the season and his second since returning from the Olympics.
The Syracuse Mets at the top of the eigth, had a homer and one run. At the top of the fourth the Syracuse Mets had 4 runs and the top of the nineth they had one run. The final at Polar Park on Sunday was Worcester 1 and Syracuse 6.
Down the Pike at Fenway, the Boston Red Sox claimed a 6-2 win Sunday against the Orioles. The Orioles had the first run in this game to make it 1-0, Orioles game. But in the Bottom of the first, J.D. Martinez hit his 23rd homer of the season and got 2 RBI (Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Owens) to make it a 3-1, Boston lead. Bottom of the 6th, Kyle Schwarber, Alex Verdugo and Christian Vazquez scored to make it a 4-1, Boston lead. At the top of the seventh, Pedro Severino scored for the Orioles.
Boston Red Sox announced on Sunday that they claimed corner infielder Travis Shaw off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. In 56 games for Milwaukee in 2021, Shaw has batted .191/.279/.337 (66 OPS+) with six home runs and time spent at third base and first base. Over the past three seasons combined, Shaw has an OPS+ of 65.
Meanwhile back in Worcester, the Bravehearts were at Fitton Field Sunday night for the Futures Collegiate Baseball League semifinals game against the Vermont Lake Monsters. The Bravehearts fell to the Lake Monsters, 4-3.
