WooSox Fall TO RailRiders And Boston Red Sox Win Six Straight

By Tiffany Williams –

Tuesday night the WooSox were back home at Polar Park for game one of heir six game  homestand against the RailRiders, the triple-A team for the newNew York Yankees.

In the bottom of the second Jarren Duran hit his 14th homer of the season to get the WooSox on the board early to make it a 1-0, WooSox game.

In the top of the fourth, for the RailRiders, Estevan Florial and Ryan LaMarre both scored to get the RailRiders on the board and make it a 2-, RailRiders game.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jeter Downs tied the game up with his 7th homer of the season to make it a 2-2 game. Downs who is a former first round pick of the Cincinnti Reds, came to the Red Sox franchise in 2020 as part of the Mookie Betts trade. At face value he has been a very impactful member of this franchise with the WooSox and thus far this season he has had 142 at bats, 19 runs, 34 hits, 7 homers, and 15 RBI’s. The question is when will Downs make an appearance in Boston and that may not come this season especially with how great a lineup Boston already has this season. There is some potential that maybe next season Downs could get a call up to Boston if tweeks a few things and finds some rhythm with the WooSox.

In the top of the 5th, Andrew Velazquez and Estevan Florial both scored for the RailRiders to make it a 4-2, RailRiders game. In the bottom of the the 6th, Yairo Munoz scored to make it a 4-3, RailRiders game. Top of the 9th, the RailRiders were showing no mercy for the WooSox with Rob Brantly hitting his 5th homer of the searson and getting an RBI (Trey Amburgay) to make it a 6-3, RailRiders game. Then as if that wasn’t a stinger for the WooSox, Andrew Velazquez, Jun Park and Ryan LaMarre all scored to make it a 9-3, RailRiders game. The WooSox were not leaving this one without one more running score and Johan Mieses did just that to make it a 9-4, RialRiders game. Then Jarren Duran hit his 15th homer of the season and got two RBI’s (Jack Lopez and Jett Bandy) to make it a 9-7, RailRiders game.

The final at Polar Park Tuesday night was Worcester 7 and the RailRiders 9.

Game two of this six game homestand is Wednesday night with the first pitch at 6:35 PM. Wednesday night is Women of Wednesday, Women of Worcester.
